The constituted organisation have become well known in Blantyre for their organisational skills in various events including the Festive and Summer Galas, as well as being involved in several other Community focused projects.

A spokesperson for the Committee told the Advertiser, “For the last 3 years, our annual fundraising efforts have saved South Lanarkshire Council money on their budget through items like the festive lights and infrastructure for the Christmas tree being provided by us. We have already established excellent relationships with several Council departments and with the backing of local South Lanarkshire councillors, becoming Blantyre’s “Community Council” seems the next logical step given our experience to date. Our Committee Board intends to vote this week on whether to take the next step and upgrade to become a Community Council. If the motion is passed, it would mean additional effort from ourselves as volunteers with election nominations requiring to be put forwarded to South Lanarkshire Council. The general consensus is that it would not be too different to what we’re already doing for Blantyre.

A committee decision is expected by Sunday 15th November 2015.
